Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 August 2026
Verset is operated by Tolulope Akinniyi (“Verset”, “we”, “us”), based in Nigeria. This policy explains what information we collect through the Verset website and desktop application, why we collect it, and the choices you have. Questions: tolexjoshua@gmail.com.
1. Information we collect
Account and trial information
When you start a trial or subscribe, we collect the church or organisation name and an email address you provide. That is the only personal information required to use Verset.
Usage information
To operate the service and bill fairly we record lightweight usage events tied to your account: the number and length of transcription requests, which speech engine was used, and periodic “is this account still active” checks from the desktop app. We do not record what was said or displayed.
Payment information
Paid subscriptions are processed by Paystack. Card and bank details are entered on Paystack's systems and are never seen or stored by Verset. We receive only a subscription reference, your billing status, and the date your current period ends.
Audio and sermon content
Speech audio is processed only to produce a live transcript:
- Offline transcription runs entirely on your own computer. No audio leaves the machine.
- Cloud transcription streams short audio segments to a third-party speech provider (see section 4) to be turned into text and returned. Verset does not retain the audio, and the providers we use are contractually bound not to use it to train their models. Realtime cloud transcription connects your app directly to the provider using a short-lived token, so the audio does not pass through our servers at all.
Transcripts, sermon notes, service plans, imported slides, and settings are stored locally on your computer, not on our servers.
Website and admin cookies
The public website does not use tracking or advertising cookies. The private admin dashboard uses a single session cookie to keep an administrator signed in.
2. How we use information
- To create and manage your account and trial period.
- To provide transcription and AI features and route them to the correct provider.
- To process subscription payments and send billing and access notices.
- To measure aggregate usage and cost, and to prevent abuse of the service.
- To respond to support requests.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
3. Legal basis and your rights
We process personal data to perform our contract with you (providing the service) and for our legitimate interest in running and securing it, consistent with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and you may object to certain processing. To make a request, email tolexjoshua@gmail.com. We will respond within a reasonable time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
4. Service providers we share data with
We use a small number of processors, each only for the purpose listed:
- Paystack — subscription payments and billing.
- Resend — sending account and access-code emails.
- MongoDB Atlas — database hosting for account and usage records.
- Vercel — website and API hosting.
- GitHub — hosting the desktop application installers you download.
- Speech and AI providers — Deepgram, Groq, Speechmatics, AssemblyAI, and Google (Gemini), used to transcribe audio or generate text when you use the corresponding cloud feature.
Some of these providers operate outside Nigeria. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on the providers' own safeguards and contractual commitments.
5. Data retention
Account records are kept while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for accounting and legal purposes, then deleted or anonymised. Usage events are kept in aggregate for cost analysis. You can ask us to delete your account and associated personal data at any time.
6. Security
Access codes are stored as opaque tokens, administrative access is password-protected, and all traffic to the website and API is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect the limited data we hold.
7. Children
Verset is intended for use by churches and organisations, not by children, and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the “last updated” date above, and where appropriate we will notify account holders by email.
